Out with the LT1 in with the Gen I... Estimates?
It seems like you are just trying to reinvent the wheel here, whats wrong with an lt1, in simplest terms its a reverse flow cooling, fuel injected gen 1 with a funky distributor, your keeping the funky distributor, and the fuel injection, so why don't you want the lt1?
Reliable = Boring
Age + Mods are mutually exclusive of reliability. It's part of driving a bada$$ed car that you don't have a morgage on. Otherwise, get a Toyota for commuting.
Remember this when you are stranded on the roadside: breaking stuff is cool and chicks dig scars. Also, nobody cars what's under the hood of a Prius!
And Ellis, It's not just that. Like I said before, this motor we have just laying around is a way better motor. Why not put it in? I don't understand why some of you guys are so against me doing this?... lol
I'm not against a Gen I in lieu of a LT1, I just don't think it's a magic bullet. Aside from parts availability, the LT1 is a better design. But as long as you are happy with the car and what it does for you, then have at it. We all do this for fun, not because it's easy or sane, right?
the downsides are that your going to blow ~$1,000 for the intake/tb, up to $500 getting the rails hooked up, ~$350 for sbc distributor/plug wires.....
and then you have your custom stuff such as throttle cable, opti pickup in the distributor, harness re-routing/wiring, coolant hose routing, and alternator/power steering drive system.
ask me how i know... lol

are you mcgyver? lol
i paid ~$400 for my intake/rails, tb was $500, injectors were $300.
distributor was $300, $90 wires, $xxxx stainless braided lines/fittings
$400 low mount alternator..... and there was other odds n ends.
Dude your dad's shop must be badass!!! I can't wait to see it. Hopefully you will have it done by the end of the month. I'm leaving on the first and moving to South Carolina. Duty Calls.
I hope it will be too but not counting on it. Believe me, when it's done you'll see me around. We need to setup a cruise before you leave! And really it's not necessarily the shop, my pops is really just a bad *** fabricator and can make something good outa nothing. My under drive pulley that was on my car was made by him out of a chunk of aluminum. He made himself a monoblade throttlebody that works bad *** outa a stock LT1 throttle body. Give him a chunk of aluminum and some time on his lay and he can pretty much make anything. I wish I could learn half of what he knows!
