OTVC Wire Question? Pic inside!!
OTVC Wire Question? Pic inside!!
I finishing up on my Jet Hot LT install and just got through doing the wires. I bought ThunderRacings kit they sell for 100.00. I routed the wires on the passenger side under the altenator. When I put the altenater in I noticed that it was touching the wires. My question is will this burn the wires or cause any problems? Someone please let me know soon.

I cant think of that causing any problems, but maybe there's something I'm not seeing here. As far as burning, I certainly hope your alternator isn't getthing that hot! j/k You should be fine. Maybe somebody else can confirm this...?

It would have been better if I routed them around the alt., but i didn't think of that at the time. Which way did you guys route yours on the passenger side?

If your **** like me you can get some split loom (the stuff the harness wires go through) and put the wires in there, it looks cleaner and I doubt they will burn through the plastic and through the wire.

I think the vib.s alone might cause a problem overtime. add some heat (prolly about the same heat as the intake will see) and I wonder how long it will last. at this point, you migth aswell go ahead and give it a whirl. maybe I'll be wrong and it wont give you a problem. I'll send you a pic of how I routed mine if you do have to redo them later.

I had MSD 8.5's routed directly underneath the alternator for about two years. It was hot enough under there to slightly deform thin plastic (convoluted tubing), but certainly not hot enough to burn a high-temp ignition wire. I dont think you've got anything to be alarmed about.
Then again, I also had a few of the plug boots practically touching header primaries (maybe 1mm of clearance), and they didnt burn or discolor either. When I removed the wires and cleaned them, you'd have thought they were brand new out of the box.
Luck of the draw I guess -- I know others haven't been as lucky. Always good to have a spare set of ignition wires handy...

I routed mine the same way.
I haven't had any of them melt, but I had some cross-arcing. Spark jumping from wire to wire, so I put convoluted tubing on them. I need to check them again at night and see if it's any better.

i used some flexible silver insulator tubing, but the convoluted stuff should work too.
once they start arcing, they won't stop, gotta change em
you can see it at night if you pull on the throttle cable (or have someone gun it)
