Unhappy OT but i'm desperate and need help.

hey everybody, First of all, i am very sorry this is off topic, but when i put it in the drivetrain section I got no repliesand barely any views at all. I'm desperate for answers so i'm sorry its in this section but i figured more people would see it here.

I got a 93 z28 and i recently had to get a new gearbox since i fried my old one. Ever since i got the car back though it has never been 100% and has been just F#ckin **** basically. The throttle response is gone to hell, before i used to barely put my foot on the accelerator and the car would be flying but now I have to really step on it to get it moving. Anyway, the main problem is since i got this gearbox the car doesn't have that powerful kick anymore when driving it, almost like its lost all its torque. What I mean is when i'm on the highway and just put my foot down all the way my car doesn't accelerate as fast as it used to and the rpms barely get over 4. Feels like my car has 200horses instead of the 290 or so it should have. Last night I barely kept up to a turbocharged corolla on the highway, so I've decided enough is enough and I am willing to save up every cent i earn to get back my old car performance. I've had this gearbox in for around 3 weeks now and I've had enough. This is the 3rd gearbox this guy put in my car and i don't think its gonna get any better than this, so I have given up on taking the car back to that idiot. I think the next option is to find a wrecked camaro and buy a gearbox and put it on. btw i'm getting a refund from that idiot gearbox place.

So My questions are (1) if I find a wrecked camaro z28 auto between 1993-97, will their gearbox bolt on with no hassles or does it need to be from a 1993 camaro in specific? (2) Also, and more importantly will it perform like the old one did or will it still give me the ****s like this one does now. (3) do I need anything else besides the gearbox itself when i'm converting it from one car to another (such as rear gears or anything)? (4) Is it possible he put in a gearbox from a caprice or something, since i read all gm parts are compatible, and could this be the problem??

Assuming you are referring to a 6 speed, you should have had one of the following transmissions:

Year Model/Optn _1st _2nd _3rd _4th _5th _6th _Final
---- ------------- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- -----
1993 Manual/M28 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62 2.73 (GU2)
1993 Manual/M29 2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.80 0.62 3.23 (GU5)

The only sluggishness you would feel would be in 1st gear if you had an M29 transmission with the 2.73 rear ratio. Your replacement tranny should have matched your original equipment.

For reference:
1994+ Manual/MN6 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50 3.42 (GU6)

I saw on another forum that you asked the same question and got pretty much the same answer I gave you. Then, you say it is an automatic. Why did you not put that in there in the first place and who calls an automatic a "gearbox"?

Get your TV cable adjusted.

Aww, sometimes I just get cranky. It's hard for an old guy to think sometimes and when it's all for nought, it can get on my last nerve. It's all ok now.

why insult the auto in the camaro?? I'm sure you already know that the autos in the camaros run almost identical numbers on the track with the manual tranny so whats your problem.

AS for me posting this question in more than one forum, well whats the problem with that??? I posted it here on this forum for TWO days in the driveline section and no one answered coz everyone comes to engine tech and no one hardly ever goes to driveline. SO I posted it here and on 2 other sites, I really don't see what the problem with that is let alone you calling me dumb injectedss. I bet it made you feel like a big man to hide behind that keyboard and insult me. well good for you mate, you're too smart for me to mess with.

I've got a slushbox in my camaro. People have been calling them slushboxes for a loooooooooong time. I don't really have a problem, just giving you some terms that you might use to your advantage.

Besides, the only people I hear use the word "gearbox" generally also use the word "motorcar", "bonnet", "boot" and "cabriolet". Generally people in America say automatic or manual transmission.
