I ordered a bronze gear drive from comp cams, but the inner diameter of the gear is to big. If you install the gear on the oil drive there is to much play in it. Do you know of a company that makes a bronze gear for the lt1?

If you ordered a cam specific for an LTx it should have a compatible gear. Check with their tech line to be sure though.

Hmmm...I thought all hydraulic roller cams were billet steel?

Comp has two different cores that can be used for roller cams. One requires a bronze gear and the other does not. Usually, if you specify a cam for an LTx you will get the "08" core, which doesn't require a special gear. The "09" does.

You can tell the difference by looking between the lobes. The 08 has a dull, slightly porous appearance while the 09 has the shinier appearance usually associated with a "billet" piece. Or, you could just look at the cam card!

When I ordered my XE230/236 I got it made of the billet material because they were having trouble with cores for the regular stuff (last summer). They offered to have mine made of the billet for 30 bucks more than the regular. Do I need the bronze gear too, or is the stocker ok?

This has been discussed before as a gentleman had a very similar question. Search LT1 Tech for that thread.... was maybe a month ago.

Best thing to do is talk to the cam maker. Everyone does it a bit different. Some press an iron gear on, some don't. The cam card doesn't always say... at least the one for my Isky doesn't.

No, not all hydraulic roller cams are billet.... costs more to make. Not to mention, they're stronger and deflect less.
