ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
i have all my mods i want and now i have to put them in sometime next week. I was wondering if it would be easier to just pull the whole engine out vs doing all the mods with the engine in the car. I curerntly am getting shipped a 224/230, new springs, new 1.6 rockers, new longtubes and a new Y pipe that i will use with my catback currently. i also got teh nitrous kit on order and a 2800 stall. what the best way to do all the mods at one shot?
Re: ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
id personally just do one at a time. if you havent pulled the engine before it'snot the easiest thing to do. its not impossible, its just not a quick job.
I'd do your exhaust first (headers, y) and go from there.

1 mod at a time.
There's nothing like throwing numerous mods at a car at the same time. Then when problems come up you're stuck with your thumb up your *** not knowing where to start diagnosing!
Good luck and you've got some nice mods listed.

ssbowtie1 had a good point. say you do all these installs at once and you have a SES light or your car flat out doesn't work? where would you start? if you do the process one step at a time you'd be able to pinpoint what the problem would be much easier than you would if you installed everything at once.
Re: ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
I'd do the headers and converter together since it'll be so much easier to install lt's with the trans out of the car. Once you have everything back together and you've verified that everything is in working order, I'd move on to the cam and valvetrain. While you're doing the cam, send your PCM to madz28 to tune it and you'll have quite the street car when you're up and running again (If you don't spin a bearing like these damn lt1s seem to be notorious for
).
G'luck.

I agree with 2 things, A) do them 1 at a time step by step, and B) good luck not spinning a rod bearing with a cam on that many miles although its not very big. There are 5 out of the 20 of us in my group with LT1's. Three have spun rod bearings, two after a cam swap. Though with a cam that small you should be ok.

Re: ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
the work that your doing doesnt really warrant pulling the motor. might be a little easier putting the headers on and the cam in with it pulled. but they can both definitely be done with the motor in the car. you'd probably spend just as much time getting the motor out as it is going to take to put the projects into the motor with it in the car. plus as mentioned, you can do one project at a time and make sure that its working right before you start on another project....
....but now if your getting an ses light from putting in headers, something is seriously wrong (with the exception of not putting in o2 sims or just deleting the rear o2s from your pcm). you got to pull the rockers to put the cam in... i would certainly want to do those two projects at the same time. along with the springs as well....
now on the other hand, once you get the motor out, the projects will go super quick. you can be a lot more thorough with the installs and do the projects all at once and save your back. the mods listed in my signature were put into my car all at one time. i took my time and built it right and didnt really worry too much about the SES light. i had a few problems when i started the car, but they were super easy fixes and easy to diagnose. of course if i were you, if i pulled the motor, i'd have it rebuilt with new rings and bearings and have it thoroughly cleaned. but now your talking about a lot more time and money. if you dont mind taking the extra time to pull the motor, thats the route i would take. (btw- pulling the motor isnt really that hard. its time consuming, but not that hard. i pulled the motor out of my car for the first time this past january and i found it to be fairly easy.)
use your best judgement on this. your projects can be done in your car. pulling the engine can take a lot of time and extra money but allows you to be more thorough. but as far as doing them at seperate times, i dont know that i would stress about that too much in your case.

Re: ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
I think it would be easier to do once the motor was out, but it would prolly take the same amount of time if you left it in. Dropping the engine is not as hard as some make it out to be, Ive done it twice dropping it out the bottom, took one full day of work and then a half a day of little stuff and actually pulling it. 2nd time took about one day. I think its a question of time vs. ease of installation.
Re: ordered all my parts, now putting them in whats the best way?
I'd say exhaust/N20/stall at the same time. While the exhaust is apart you can back off the tranny and slip the stall on, and while your under the car anyways might as well run the nitrous lines. Also you have to switch to colder spark plugs with N20 and you have to take them off to put the headers on anyways.
The valvetrain and cam I would do together as well.

well i am still at a stand still, i might just do the things with the stuff in the car because i have access to a lift and all the tools i need.

I just pulled mine and rebuilt it all. Taking both out is not too hard. Just a little time consuming
