OptiSpark Sale

Re: OptiSpark Sale
the ORIGINAL Opti had a Misshubi optical scanner and look at what havoc that played on all of us.
Remember the Mis**bi were the suppliers of the KomaKazi planes that killed so many of our United States Sailors in World War Two. what can we expect from them now, an excellent piece of equiptment? get real!

Re: OptiSpark Sale
Well, the Japanese firm MITSUBISHI built the Zero and other world war two aircraft. Kamikaze was a desperate warfighting technique, not an aircraft. This is all completely irrelevant to the optispark.
Mitsubishi is a conglomerate into everything from cars to electronics to foods (ever hear of 3 diamonds tuna?) with a reputation for high quality components.
I don't think I've heard of 5 failures over the last 10 years that were attributable to the optical trigger......most were ozone related on the high voltage side and rust on the slotted wheel.....
In any case, new or remanufactuered probably doesn't matter if they used quality optical and HV components...even if it's into an old case.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
The entire development of the optical cam position sensor, integrated into the distributor, was a joint venture of Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors, operating as "Diamond Star Motors" (DSM). They jointly developed a 3.0L V6 engine that used the optical distributor, and used it in various mid 1980's Chrysler and Mitsubishi cars.
DSM had the common sense to locate the distributor in the conventional position, on top of the engine, rather than on front, under the water pump.
I've used only the optical sensor portion in my Formula for over 12 years. The engine is easily capable of 7,400 RPM operation. Never had a problem with the Mitsubishi sensor. A buddy of mine use a similar setup in an 1,125HP LT1 in a 97 30th SS convertible, and for 2 years back in the late 90's, it was the quickest know LT1, even at 3,800# race weight. That engine had an 8,000 RPM redline. The sensor never presented a problem of any kind.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
Was checking the availability on these today and noticed they have been marked down another 100 bucks or so to $199.50. How low can they go? I should have waited. The vented units appear to be selling quite a bit faster than the non-vented, which makes sense, I guess.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
I'm sending mine back, if they're $100 cheaper!! I paid $300 for mine!! With the return of my opti and plug wires, I've got enough to get an LTCC setup, since I can get the coils from work, for pretty cheap!

Re: OptiSpark Sale
I was actually thinking about buying another one, and the lower price makes it quite a bit more tempting.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
Still listed on Summit for $199.50. Wondering if these are really any better than the aftermarket replacements. See them for $150 and less and not hard to find. Thinking about buying a spare but sure can't spare the cash right now.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
They appear to be OEM, so I think the consensus would be that they are much better than most, or all, aftermarket optis.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
Supplies are dwindling. I think I'm going to buy another one. It's kind of like averaging down in the stock market, and I'm not sure you can ever have too many optis.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
I just ordered a second one a few minutes ago. I noticed yesterday that the vented units were gone, or maybe it was earlier today, but when I ordered mine they showed one available, with a price of $369. Kinda weird.

Re: OptiSpark Sale
I hope it's not inappropriate to post this information here, but Summit Racing is running a clearance sale on both models of GM optisparks. The price is not too shabby.
