Optispark broke at vaccum connection!!!

This is on a 97. We noticed while putting the vaccum line back on that goes from the intake to the bottom of the opti. The plastic protrusion that sticks out from the opti and lets you clamp the vaccum line on broke off. It didnt completely shear off to where the surface is flat, it just broke off a little more than half of it. enough so that we cannot put the vaccum line back on.

So I wanted to ask if you guys think the car will run alright w/out the line plugged back into the opti? Should we block the hole off some how so that debris and moisture do not get in? Maybe use some kind of epoxy or plastic weld paste or something? And then just block off the fitting on the intake of course.

What do you guys think? All the car has to do this is make it thru this summer. From May-September, and approx 3-4k miles. We can install a new opti next winter.

thanks!

Best (and easy) fix would be to tap it with a little threaded metal nipple fitting and reinstall the hose.

can you elaborate just a bit?

What is a nipple fitting? Just a piece of round tube with threads that I can screw in (after tapping the plastic on the opti)? Can I get this at any hardware store? What do I ask for?

Yes... If you have a Home Depot or Lowes near you, just go to their hardware section and find some small metal fitting that you can tap into there. Then you can (carefully) just drill out the broken fitting on the Opti and tap in the new piece.
