Optispark

Ok so i installed a new optispark on my 1994 z28. I went with the MSD set up. After the install and everything was back together i tried to fire it up and nothing. The motor will crank and crank but nothing. So i decided to see if there was any spark and came to the conclusion there was no spark to the plugs. Is there something ive missed during the install? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Optispark

Did you have to press the opti on with a little more force than you thought it should take? My first attempt installing mine was taking a little too much pressure I thought.. I pulled it off and saw the keyed splined shaft wasn't aligned... Seems to be a lot of people here force them on and install the rotor off.. I guess it's easy to do since the rotor splines are plastic.. Do a search on it and you'll see.

Re: Optispark

It's easier to install the opti without the cap on. That way you can wiggle the rotor back and forth to line it up.

Re: Optispark

Yes the coil wire is connected good. It didnt take must force at all to get it to go on and ive checked the opti harness. I will double check these things but i read about the indexed pin and honestly i think i lined it up right. Im going to get the module tested tomorrow but i will double check these things. If worse comes to worse it will be pulled again. But one question even if it was out of time it would still fire right?

Yeah, especially since it's the PCM that does the firing command based on the signal it is getting from the distributor.

Re: Optispark

If the Opti is putting out the high and low res pulse signals, the PCM should try and fire the plugs, even if the Opti is indexed correctly to the cam. The PCM has no way to know if its on there right or wrong.
