Talking opti-spark still works!

Before I put my original opti on to my new motor, I took the opti to the car wash and power washed it for the ultimate test. Today I started my new motor for the 1st time...it fired up in an instant like a new car!

Can I ask a few questions?

Why would you powerwash it knowing how finiky they are?

What would possess you to put an old opti on a brand new engine?

Can I ask you an additional question??

What exactly did you achieve by doing that?

#1 I see at least 5 posts a week about someones opti got wet and then it dies. Mines has been wet plenty of times and I never had a problem. #2 I want to see just how long mines will last, my car is not a daily driver. #3 Like I said, this is only a test.

My opti got a coolant bath thanks to my dad, and died 1250 miles later while I was on vacation. It won't die right away, but it will die.

I guess all optis aren't created equally. There's a guy that posted yesterday that a thief stole his car and parked it in a lake, and the opti is still fine 30k miles later!

I guess I should point out that when I put the old opti on, I didn't put on the other accessories like the water pump and other stuff in case the opti didn't work. Working on my car is a hobby and not a neccessity...at least so far!

OK, now i am confused. you didnt put the water pump on? SO basically, you put the opti on, started the car and called it a success? Water dosent make it die on the spot usually, it corrodes the points inside, or kills the optical.

I had my opti die after power washing it before I knew better. Give it some time.

I power washed the opti 4 months ago, it had plenty enough time to corrode if it was going to do so. I'm just getting around to putting the car back together.
