opti spark question

I was wondering what the symptoms of a fried opti spark are; other than not starting.Because my car will not start it cranks and cranks but it will not start.Their is no power gitting to the fuel pump and I have changed the relay. The car is also not getting a spark.I was wondering if their was something that cuts the power to every thing else if the opti spark goes bad.The SES light on the dash also dosent come on when the key is first turned to where the radio comes on but it is not cranked but all of the other lights on the dash do come on then go off in a few seconds. So far here is what I have tried I checked all fuses,Changed the PCM, and changed the fuel pump relay but the car still dosen't start. Please Help.

Use the search feature. There are a lot of useful threads out there. More info needed on the vehicle.

Re: opti spark question

Have you done anything (mechanical) to the car before this happened? Unless it's possessed by a demon, the problem is probably something electrical. Have you checkd the fuses and relays bothe underhood and dash mounted? I don't think these cars have fuel pump shut off switches like Ford vehicles, but maybe if the opti malfunctions, it prohibits the fuel pump from turning on too? Have a scan tool thrown on it and see if any trouble codes come up.

Re: opti spark question

i ALSO have a 1996 Z/28 and just replaced my opti, the opti DOES NOT shut down the PCM, if i were you i would check into my key because no fuel pressure, spark or AIR pump signals are all signs that the security system is not being bypassed, the little chip in your ignition key may be failing, i would try this and see whats up, there are a certain amount of OHMs the key chip is supposed to let flow through it (i dont know the exact number, check into it) and if it will not do it, the security system will not let your fuel pump turn on, or let your motor produce 'fire' (spark)...either of these links might help you, good luck!
