Re: opti spark question
just out of curiosity..why are you asking about the "LT1" Optis? You have an LS1 if it's an 01' Camaro
Unless the B4C package used an old LT1 setup which I'd doubt since its less efficient..Thats pretty sweet that you got a rare Camaro like that..is it Teal or Forest Green? Anyways, might want to find out which engine you really have..if its an LT1 (which only was put in 93-97 Z28s)..then it should be cheaper. If its an LS1..its probobly more expensive. Good luck though..And yes..you CAN put in new components in the older/used housings..just clean them up a bit. I did and it works fine.

Re: opti spark question
Early units 1992-1994 (including Corvette) were non vented...1995-1997 were vented and less prone to moisture which was the downfall of the earlier units...I would guess that all of the innards are similar...

We (my dad and I) have a 1983 Malibu station wagon that we have put a 1993 Z28 LT1 into, the wiring is all done with the car, the fuel system is done too, its just that there is no spark. When we got the motor we found out that the water pump was bad and we replaced it, we should have gone ahead and done the opti but we wanted to see if the motor ran first. Well the opti is bad and it needs to be replaced. There is a price diffrence between the early ($350) and the later ($200), I just wanted to make sure that the later stuff would work if the original case was used.
O and my car is Mystic Teal, check out my cardomain and leave a comment please.
Re: opti spark question
Sorry about the confusion with the car you had the question on..I ASSUMED since your screen name had 2001..its the car you were referring to..which would not match the question. But now its all clear to me!
I did get a chance to check it out and yes, its a very nice looking car..very clean. It looked like a Forest Green to me from the pics..as I have a Mystic Teal 94Z..just seems a bit lighter of a color than what you have. Its very possible though that the camera doesnt do it justice..when I purchased my vehicle from this website...the guy said it was Quasar Blue..it also was very blue in the pictures. When the truck delivered it however, I told the driver.."thats NOT my car!". He varified the Vin # lol...turns out the pics were at dusk and the car was wet..it changed the color..go figure. Anywho..Im VERY happy as its the BEST color in my opinion..as you dont even have to change anything exterior-wise to get a load of compliments! (not changing also creates a 'stock' look
)
Anyways, as Aba says..the only difference in the earlier and later Opits was the Vented and Non-vented characteristics..which I'm sure you are aware of. I do believe that the internals should be identical. The only differences should be in the outter characteristics where the 95-97 has some vaccum ports and then some other modifications such as the Timing cover I hear has to be converted as well. But that should not effect the internals. I believe it is the exact same..so to answer the question from MY knowledge..YES you can use those cheaper parts
To get a more correct answer..Id refer you to Shoebox's website:
Shoeboxes' Site
its very helpful and he knows what he's talking about. His site is very helpful and you can also PM him to find out for sure. He may even have diagrams of both internals for you to compare! If he doesnt, I'm sure its VERY EASY to search and find out on this website..its a much 'under-used' tool that would avoid many unneeded threads.
Good luck man, and get some pics up with that Malibu with the LT1 in it..that would be kinda neat to see!

Re: opti spark question
Hey man,
I just got done last week putting a new optispark in my 93 firebird. I do have the old non-vented opti. All I did was bought a remaned opti and used the old cap and rotor. The problem I had was the unit the rotor is screwed too had alot of play in it and cause alot of hesitation. The opti's are notorious for moisture getting in there. I put a light coat of silicon around the cap where it's conected to the opti itself but just enough to put a light seal on it. I spent $110.00 on the remanufactured opti through Nappa auto parts. So to answer your question, yes you can use the Cap and Rotor just get a new opti itself. Make sure you pull the gear out of the old one and align the keyed spline up on the inside of the opti and use the rotor to turn the gear while putting the set-up into the timing cover. Sounds hard but once you do it, you feel glad it's finally in. My car is running 10 times better now that I'm running on all cylinders. Good luck man
1993 Formula (Burgandy)
things to do:
1. Zo6 wheels
2. k&n air intake set-up
3. find T/A spolier for formula
New headliner
The list is endless
