Opti-Spark Info

I'm converting my non-vented opti to a vented opti to go in my jeep. Could someone give me any info on water issues (going through a deep creek etc) as far as the opti having problems? I heard tonight that there has been some issues with the opti being
water-proof and I need some of you LT1 experts to give me your opinion.
Thanks

Most optis and water do not like each other. Some seem to be better sealed than others. Do what you can to keep water out of it.

You can seal the opti up. I took the halves apart before I installed mine the last time and ran a bead of orange RTV in the mating groove.

The best info advice i can give you is get that LT1 out of there if you want to do creek crossings or you are gonna kill your opti everytime.

The odds are definitely against you. I think your overall best bet is to get that Deltech setup.

That only takes care of the cap and rotor problem.

Drill it for a normal distributor. There should be room in a jeep to run one.

Re: Opti-Spark Info

I'm in the process on installing a LT1 in a Cj7. I'm also concerned about water intrusion into the optispark. I took apart my old distributor (non-vented) to find what appear to be drain holes(3). I've been considering tapping these hoses and running clear vinyl tubing to a higher point. however GM has had trouble with the air inside the distributors ionizing the air cause drivability problems. So I'm also considering installing a vent in the same distributor, with an orifice tube, to the intake for constant air movement. the wires should be able to be sealed with di-electric grease. I'd appreciate any inputs, sugestions or critiques...everything is still in the planing stages...

Re: Opti-Spark Info

Well then, you could put a carb setup on it with a plain old distributor.

Re: Opti-Spark Info

no matter what you end up doing with your jeep, i HIGHLY recommend you use a different engine bro, no matter what i can almost guarantee a opti problem withing the first couple times of water touching if not the first time, its actually almost stupid to put a big v8 in a jeep to go off roading in, i see 4 bangers do better with low gear ratios than most v8's but thats if your doing like mostly off road use, if u wont go in water, go for it , i had new opti on my camaro, drove it one day in the rain, drove through a tiny puddle pretty slow and it got the fudge sticker wet and had to buy a new one
