Opti-Spark Info
Opti-Spark Info
I'm converting my non-vented opti to a vented opti to go in my jeep. Could someone give me any info on water issues (going through a deep creek etc) as far as the opti having problems? I heard tonight that there has been some issues with the opti being
water-proof and I need some of you LT1 experts to give me your opinion.
Thanks

Re: Opti-Spark Info
I'm in the process on installing a LT1 in a Cj7. I'm also concerned about water intrusion into the optispark. I took apart my old distributor (non-vented) to find what appear to be drain holes(3). I've been considering tapping these hoses and running clear vinyl tubing to a higher point. however GM has had trouble with the air inside the distributors ionizing the air cause drivability problems. So I'm also considering installing a vent in the same distributor, with an orifice tube, to the intake for constant air movement. the wires should be able to be sealed with di-electric grease. I'd appreciate any inputs, sugestions or critiques...everything is still in the planing stages...
Re: Opti-Spark Info
no matter what you end up doing with your jeep, i HIGHLY recommend you use a different engine bro, no matter what i can almost guarantee a opti problem withing the first couple times of water touching if not the first time, its actually almost stupid to put a big v8 in a jeep to go off roading in, i see 4 bangers do better with low gear ratios than most v8's but thats if your doing like mostly off road use, if u wont go in water, go for it
, i had new opti on my camaro, drove it one day in the rain, drove through a tiny puddle pretty slow and it got the fudge sticker wet and had to buy a new one
