chargine issues
chargine issues
I have just converted over to a carb setup, therfore i have gotten rid of the stock wiring harness and pcm. The connector the plugs into the alternator was part of the main harness. I know without that pluged in the alternator will not charge so i ran a wire from a voltage source and cut the plug off of the wiring harness and wired it up. It was working for the better part of the day, then it stoped charging. Any idea's??? Is there a differnt way i should have the alt wired up?
Re: chargine issues
i think you burnt up your alt. All you need is one big wire off the big lug to got to the battery and the small one is for a light. So i am thinking if you hooked up the small one in the plug all by itself you most likely burnt up your alt.
Re: chargine issues
With just the big wire going to the lug on the back of the alt, it will not charge. You need some type of signal for the alt to charge. At least this is what i have been told, plus i tried it that way and got no charge at all, but when i tried it with the wire going to the bat and got a good charge for the better part of the day.
Re: chargine issues
Yes, this is because the magnets inside the alternator are not permanent. They're electromagnets. So they need an electric current to create the electric field. Dunno why it stopped charging though. Check your wiring or try another alt.
