It's a pretty straight forward r and r. The water pump has to come off, the crank pulley, Alternater, power steering pump, and I highly recommend taking the radiator and a/c components out to free up room, The A.I.R. pump and intake assembly gotta go. It's also a good chance to replace the plug wires and plugs. As far as timing goes you don't need to worry about it. The opti only goes on one way, just make sure that you put your plug wires on in the right order also. And replace the seal for the opti on the front cover and before you install the new opti you should take some emry cloth to the sealing surface on the opti so it breaks in the new seal better. If I missed anything I'm sure someone else will let you know. Also, I highly recommend buying a haynes or Chilton manual for the car, it'll help clarify the process.

put car on jack stands, or ramps
disconect battery

remove intake ducting

drain coolant

disconnect fans and remove

disconnect all coolant hoses on waterpump

remove waterpump (6 bolts) remove waterpump shaft

remove serpentine belt

remove balancer with a 3 jaw puller (crank hub can stay on)

disconnect opti harness, vent hoses, spark plug wires and coil wire ( number the wires as you remove them)

remove opti (3 bolts)

to reinstall new opti. you must line up the dowel pin on the cam with the back of the opti that spins. http://shbox.com/1/opti_back.jpg

you will want to change the seals too in the timing cover 1 water pump seal and one opti seal , you will need new waterpump gaskets and some more coolant

just reverse the instructions and your good to go, and no need to worry about the timing it is computer controlled

anyone feel free to chime in if im missing something

whaaaaaat!! you do not have to do that. take off air intake, waterpump, air pump, drain radiator, take off just the crank pulley and pull the opti off.

I took the radiator out to free up some elbow room, it only took a few extra minutes to do that.

I don't know, but, a "pin drive" opti is only on the 1996 and 1997 LT1 F_bodies. The previous years had a spline drive. Anyway, if you change the opti, install a alum rivet in the rotor to hold the copper contact. The stock sonic welded plastic does not hold well and will be the cause of failure. B.

Delteq out of business?

I noticed the comment about Delteq.

I've been trying to contact Delteq for the past week, and although their phone is still connected, their voice mailbox is full and no one answers during business hours.

I tried emailing jc@delteq.com (their webpage contact info) and have had no reply.

So Delteq may be gone. I was satisfied with their product for 3 years, but then something died and I'm trying to get my LT-1 Roadmaster going again.

No one has been able to contact Delteq for approx. one year. The owner is reportedly sick, and no longer supporting the business. Unfortunately, I had a similar experience with the owner on an earlier LT1 product that he sold (when employed by Electromotive), then failed to support.

If he's replacing the entire optispark he doesn't need to do this.

You DON'T need to remove any of the A/C components, nor the radiator. Man there's some sketchy advice in here. As many times the average LT1 owner has swapped optisparks I'd think most everyone would have it down pat.
