Angry opti sensore going?

Hello, can any one give me a good description of the symptoms of a failing optisensor? Do they just go or is it a intermiten type of problem? My Gf's 96 z28 has a speratic problem where it will sputter and have now power throw acceleration, but if she puts her foot in to it, it seems to be fine. Put a code reader on it and nothing. We replaced the computer earlyier this year. I work at an autoparts store and no one not even the dealer can give me a defeant answer. Any info would be greatly appreatiated.

If it was it would throw a code.

Have you checked fuel pressure? If a 96 is missing it will throw a code

If the sensor loses the high resolution signal, there's a good chance you will never notice it. The PCM just loses a little ignition timing accuracy. You would get code P0372. If the sensor can not produce the low resolution pulse pattern, the PCM shuts the engine down, so you would notice it. And you would get code P1371. It isn't unusual to get intermittant failures, often as a result of a corroded or damaged 4-pin harness connector.

On the other hand, problems with the high voltage section of the Opti will produce the results you are describing, and there are no codes related directly to the high voltage section, other than the misfire codes.

I assume "it will sputter and have now power throw acceleration" means at low throttle pressure the is no power while acclerating????

K so the heater core when, we pulled out the old one after a few trips to the local autoparts shop, gotta love boxed wrong parts... any way, once the heater core was reinstalled hoses we when to start the car. ran like ****.. turned it off, waited a few mminetus and it wouldnt start. Gave up for the day turn her over the next day and it felt lieke it was running on six cylenders. we checked the fuel press it was 47psi. decided to tow to the dealer to get them to look at it. They get it, get in and it runs like a dream. has any one run in to a problem like this before? its a 1996 camaro z28. nothing major mod to the engin, air intake and thats really it. Were still gettting no codes on our reader and the dealer couldnt pull up any codes. we changed the ignition coil, got another computer on the way, could this be the opti, or maby a modual? any ideas would be great. thanks guys.

When you replaced the heater core, is there any chance you doused the front of the engine with coolant, in draining, refilling and bleeding the air out of the cooling system?
