A - Why would you want to upgrade the Delteq/Northstar coils? Using 4 dual tower coils quadruples the time available to charge and discharge the coil. The GNX Turbo seems to run pretty well with the similar dual-tower coils. Or why would you want to upgrade the 8 LS1-style coils used with the LTCC system..... now you have 8X the dwell time and 8X the degrees of crank rotation for discharge. And, if you really need upgraded coils, MSD makes them.

B - Removing the high voltage function from the Opti seems to eliminate many of the problems. I've been running only the optical sensor, with 8 LS1 style coils for more than 5 years with no problems. A friend of mine used the same system for many years on a 30th SS making 1,125HP and spinning to 8,000RPM.

The car went 9.0 @ 155 with much smaller than 36' slicks.

 

That car went 8.60@160MPH with 29.5" slicks..... but by then it was making 1,325HP and wasn't using the Opti. Not bad for a heavy weight convertible.
