Opti Problems
Do they really go that quick ? Just wanted to see if anyone could give me some help here. I have a 94 Z28 and I replaced my opti about 50,000 miles ago when my car died in the middle of a parking lot. Now once again my car has died. I was accelerating up a hill and the car just died. Will not start at all. Checked to see if I was getting spark from the coil and there wasn't any. So went and checked for the pulsing ground at the injectors and there wasn't any of that either so I figure it must be the opti again.
Re: Opti Problems
Do you have a signal coming from the PCM to the coil? 4 VAC?
Check the resistance across all the points on the coil. Couldn't be more than 8.5K Ohms. Measure from the coil wire point to each of the points on the front of the coil.

Re: Opti Problems
Lets back up a little. How would I check the signal from PCM to the coil ? I am only using a test light as described on www.mainstreamtopics.com. I do not have a voltage meter.
Re: Opti Problems
Voltage checks come later. First pull a few plugs and check for spark. If there is none there, put a plug and wire on the coil and see if there is spark there. If you have spark at the plugs, check the schrader valve on the fuel rail for pressure. If there is none, your fuel pump or relay is bad. If there is pressure there, relieve it and cycle power on for 2 seconds and then off. Do this 4 or 5 times and then check the schrader valve again for pressure.
