opti options late 94-97

Several years ago I updated the front cover on my early 94 and went with a vented opti when I did my cam swap. About 2 weeks ago my car developed a craps out when hot...runs great when it cools down issue which I've read is a famous sign of optispark failure so I have been looking for a solution. Has anyone here used the 74 dollar Chapparel motorsports Optispark unit on Ebay and had good/bad luck? My 94 T/A is not a drag car...and hasn't seen a track in 3 years but it is my high 12 sec backup daily driver and I dont want to put junk on it thats going to fail in 3 months. I can't justify the prices of the summit or MSD optispark units. I'd like to know if anyone has used the Ebay opti.

Before you blame the opti, you might be suffering from classic ICM heat-soak failure. Do a search for that and you'll find some handy diagnostic aids along with how to prevent it from happening (ICM cooling modification).

And FWIW, there's no way in hell I'd trust a $74 optispark.

And stay the hell away from the people at all_ignition too! A mod should delete that link before someone see's it and buys something from those crooks. the ONLY people on ebay you should be buying an opti from is thepartsladi. you get what you pay for.

Moderators don't remove links, just because someone doesn't like the product.

On the other hand, speaking as a "member" and not as a "moderator", All_Ignition has a history of scamming people by selling cheap rip-off Opti copies, that they claimed were "OEM". When they got caught doing that, they repackaged the questionable product as some sort of "new and improved" design. Anyone who knows anything about the available Optis will NOT recommend All_Ignition.

I got mine from easy4auto (ebay) and it functions perfectly. I actually bought it for 28 bucks. When I opened the box it was a complete opti instead of what I thought was just the cap and rotor. I have around 4000 miles on it and I am so glad I didn't spend 300 or more on an opti, when this is fine. I've gone through the car wash, torrential rain and not an issue.

I'm just stating the facts, so people know the ilk they are dealing with. You can like it or not.... I don't really care.

You rolled the dice with All_Ignition and got lucky (so far)..... but you were playing long odds.

I agree. I will use nothing but one from the dealership or thepartsladi.

Smmit Racing is also alright to buy from i bought an opti and put it in and it instantly crapped out on me in under fifteen miles. I called summit and they sent another one right out to me and i returned the old one with no hassles and i now have about fifteen thousand miles on my accel distributor from summit with no problems for only about two hundred sixty dollars on the price tag. Personally i wouldnt trust a seventy dollar one off ebay but you never know except for the idea of taking a chance of having to change it out again.

So... you feel Summit is "alright to buy from" because only 50% of their Opti's fail? But they willingly replace the 50% defective parts.

Think about it.
