ok i am putting a new motor in my 94 lt1 and the opti is driven by a splined shaft on the back of the opti that goes into the center of the cam gear. that is how the 94 are right? ok and the new motor i have to put in it, is out of a 95 which the opti is driven by a dowl pin in the cam gear, correct? now could i just swap the cam gear off my old motor with the cam gear on the 95 motor to allow my 94 opti to fit it?

 

Yes, that would work. IMO, I would buy a complete, new timing set while I had it apart.

You're missing a good opportunity to swap over to a vented opti, though.

 

You'll need to swap timing covers also but, if you are doing the cam gear you will have it off anyway.

 

im using the opti (brand new or i would get a new vented) tc cover and cam gear from my old motor. so thats all i will need? thanks so much for the info im doing this this week end.

 

Whatever you do, the opti, timing cover and cam gear have to be for the same type of arrangement-either vented or non-vented.

You're doing extra work to achieve an inferior setup.

I'd rather have a used GM 95+ opti than a brand new GM 94- opti.
