Opti Dowl pin

The opti dowl pin it not line to line, depending which way you install the pin it is eather advanced or retarded a little. Which way is correct??

A friend of mine had it the wrong way, and his car wouldn't start, we searched for the problem for weeks, and finally figured out that it was the opti dowl.

The opti drive pin only has one correct location; see photo from Shoebox's site:

I don't understand much of what you said, but the dowel pin sits in the cam only one way and it is supposed to go in only one place on the opti. There is no advance or retard.

Re: Opti Dowl pin

SIG is wrong for my car, so i didn't post with it

ITs a 94 Z-28 NOT a 97

sorry for the confusion

On the 93-94 opti's they had a short dowl/ splined pin, on both sides they had two pins right next to each other so you couldn't install it wrong, BUT if you turn the pin around and take the side that was in the motor and put into the opti the car wont start, if i recall one side of the splined dowl is offset from the other side, make it advanced or retarded, if you turn it around. Not sure which way is correct?

You were talking about dowel pins, so who was supposed to know? I have never heard of anyone having a problem with the splined drive.
