Opti direct ignition, YOU"VE GOT TO HAVE ONE OF THESE!

Recently I discovered the Delteq Opti-direct ignition system through a thread in our group purchase section. While I haven't had any real Opti problems, mine has 105k on it and is starting to pick up a low speed miss or stumble. I called and talked to Jim "MALDO" at Elite sparkplugs and was impressed with the product and his professionalism. It was thursday around 6pm when I ordered it and was I blown away when Fed Ex delivered it today!

Well I just returned from a test drive after about a 2 1/2 hour install and this is what I think.

1: This is a first class product, Aside from the "Opti box" which drives the ignition modoule, the parts are all GM pieces reaily available form local parts stores. The adaptor harnesses are quality pieces with GM style plugs. If you looked at my engine you would be hard pressed to tell what was added.

2: This is well thought out and blends well into the engine compartment. I wsa looking into a few other systems that use individual coils, and it just made the engine compartment look a mess. With these syetms you also had to fabricate brackets and such. The coil pack mount bracket included with the kit is first class and after I have it powdercoated, it will look totaly stock.

3: If you can change your plugs adn wires, you can install this system. He said it would take under 3 hours to install and he was right. In fact, I had the coil pack mounted and wired up in about 20 minutes. The remaining time was spent routing and installing the plugwires. By the way...The directions are excellant, I just didn't need them (It's a man thing, right guys. )

4: MY CAR RUNS AWSOME! It starts instantly, idles better, and low speed response and power are noticably better. Also, I swear my exhaust is slightly louder. Gone forever are my low speed miss and my cars alergic reaction to puddles and hard rain.

5: Even if you are having problems with your Opti, as long as the bearing is good, you don't have to replace your Opti to install this. Just remove the plug wires and leave it alone.

In short, If you are having Opti fits. YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS! You will never regret it.

How much was it total? Also, can you route the wires over the valve covers or no?

It can be mounted on the drivers side valve cover or below the passenger side cooling fan on the radiator. I opted for the later due to my SS air intake blocking the valve cover. Gotta say it's stealth as hell. I know it's there, and other than the coil being gone, you can't tell at all.

$600 dollars might be a bit high, but how many of us have installed 2 or 3 opti units at a few hundred dollars each. I'm done forever.

Re: Opti direct ignition, YOU"VE GOT TO HAVE ONE OF THESE!

I was completely sold from day 1. It was one of the best investments that ive ever made for my LT1. It runs like a true dream. Install was cake. No issues what so ever.

The ONLY thing i dont like is there is an extra wire that goes over the manifold. I think i can even route it under the TB.

If you think about it. If you have a bad opti and bad wires (like i did) then i was only 200 in the hole instead of going with a new opti and wires. It is also easy to install and you can save the cash over having someone else install it for you.

The wire you talk of I ran down the right side of the manifold and under the throttle body. It blends in with the other wires neatly and looks like it belongs there.

Ok guys, I think I'm gonna get the bare bones kit, the $39 set of wires, and 4 of these

My friend uses this setup and he said it works great and the coils are better. Total is $526.

Re: Opti direct ignition, YOU"VE GOT TO HAVE ONE OF THESE!

Hi Guys I am glad to hear you all like the system.

Also in the works will be more options to choice from when ordering the system or to be bought separately:

1) Powdered coated brackets.
2) Different color wires
3) Wires set with a choice of your own logo or lettering (example: Bob’s Z/28)
4) 8mm to 10 mm wires sets
5) More sparkplug wire configurations (this will be geared for custom applications for guys with non stock cars (I can make any length wire for any setup for any car on the market)
6) Cut to fit wires options (for people who want to make there own wires sets )

Kits and pricing will be completed within two weeks.

Thank you all for your business

P.S check out this month’s GM High Tech Magazine. The Delteq system is being used on project Snow Ball. Part (IV: Wiring and ignition mods). There are great install pictures while the engine is out of the car.
