Post Opti to Coil pack conversion.

I have seen this done before on a few cars not to many tho. A new opti is around $250-280. So i was wondering, How much does it cost to do the coil pack conversion. PARTS only. What parts do I need besides the coil packs. I talked to a guy at New England dyno and tuning and he said that I needed a box or something. I'm not sure if he just meant something like an MSD box. I am going to be putting an LT1 into my SS in the next month. RIght now I have the stock opti and it has some mileage on it. It is still good so I am ganna use it till it goes bad, seeing how it wouldnt be too bad to change in my car. But when it goes I want a few options. Either replace the opti and be done with it or change over to coil pack from say an LS1. if its around the same prce for all the parts i would need.

I think you can get a new vented opti from Jason Cromer for about $180.

Go to the end of this thread.... the link to the source of the "black box" is shown there.

ADVANCED TECH OPTI REPLACEMENT THREAD

The "box" is $400, and no, it is nothing like an MSD box. Then you will need to buy the coils and supports, which I believe will run another $250 or so. Do a search for screen name "Arnie".... he has the 411 on the "box".

I have the box it's called LTCC( Lt1 coil converstion) Its 400 plus coils, brackets, wires etc. All total it cost me $800. I still haven't installed it yet but I'm hoping it will cure my high end miss.

Kevin, got a discreet 'tip' that what you stated is in likelyhood, accurate info. Forgive me for questioning the accuracy of your post.

what do you need to know, Jeff? I've placed my order

I looked at all the options as far as a cam sync sensor in the timing cover, and a conventional distributor, and the LTCC. I also talked with Craig Smith at PRI, about it and decided the LTCC was the best option for me. Craig (FAST) does want to make a bolt on opti-replacement that has the same function as the LTCC, but it won't be anytime soon, if ever.
