Opti?

Hi I cant seem to fix my shaky idle and high rpm miss. I think it may be my opti. A short time ago I changed out an old burnt out opti. When I put it all together I could not get the opti harness to plug in because the prongs in the opti were too high. So to lower the white cap that the harness plugs into I removed the rubber gasket that is located on the bottom of the white cap with a razor blade. The rubber was between the white cap and the aluminum opti. Would this cause any problems? Thanks

The weakest link in the Opti is the sealing of the harness connector "tower". Cutting away the harness tower gasket (if that's what you did) will only make it more susceptible to leaks, particularly from the water pump weep holes that are directly above it.

Did you determine why the harness connector and the Opti connector did not match? There are two different harnesses - on for the vented and one for the unvented Opti. Is it possible you mismatched the harness and the Opti?

Where is the "white cap" located, in this picture? The top of the harness tower is black. Or was this "cap" internal to the harness connector?

Simple question: were any codes thrown?

The white cap is black in this picture. It is the part of the opti that the harness plugs into under the number 3. There was a hard rubber seal connected to the bottom of that. It is not throwing any codes that would be a problem only started to throw a code for my rear o2s because I gutted the cats. I will be installing simulators once I get it to run good.

It's the white cap on top.

It could also be my plug wires. I have headers and I am running the cheap autozone stock replacement wires. The rubber boots and wires look good but they can be screwed up inside.

I changed out the number 7 plug wire because it was cooked but it made no difference. I let the car Idle and pulled the number 7 wire no change put it back on pulled the number 5 wire no change put it back pulled the number 3 wire nochange pulled the number 1 wire and no change in Idle. I can pull off any plug wire at idle and the idle does not change. It runs like crap.

I would say get rid of the autozone wires and get some msd ones. i had the same issue with the autozone wires. Makes a big difference.
