Opinions on my engine project!

Hey guys, I looked into the subject and I knda know what I want now.
Since I have a stock lt1 engine with 130k miles on it, I want to hit 2 birds with one stone so instead of rebuilding it, i will just stroke it 383 style with all new parts.... this can be considered a rebuild and upgrade at the same time.

I am planning on,
383 stroking
a ported intake manifold (or lt4 manifold)
porting my heads
cam
shorty headers with ypipe and cutout
obd1 conversion

This should cost around 3-4k$ if im smart about, and I make sure i get the best deals before i buy anything.

But want to know what im in for? what am i going to have to go through? (Im going to do this myself).

Im also the kind of guy that will be running nitrous frequently (atleast 2wice a week) so another question is, what should i do in this process to make this engine last a very long time before another rebuild (im hoping for another 100k miles) and how big of a shot should i use.

I can't see any engine surviving a 100k with "frequent" nitrous usage. Especially one built on 3k-4k. It will cost you 3k just for a forged and balanced rotating assembly.

What year is it?
You'll need lt4 heads with an lt4 intake since the intake ports are a little higher.

you could very easily get by with $3000-4000 in parts if you do the labor (except machining). and i'd stick with the lt1 heads and intake because they flow nearly the same and they are a whole lot cheaper. as for the nitrous, just remember that if there is a weak spot in the motor....nitrous will find it. i ran a NX 100-125 shot for nearly six months on a stock lower end without a problem, but others have not had such luck. also make sure your fuel system is up to par. i would hate to see all that work gone to waste because a weak fuel pump or injectors.

good luck on the rebuild.

If this is your first one, take any $$ budget you have and double it. That's what this will cost.

There are a lot of awesome crate engines and rebuilds from racing shops available for $3-6k. This is a great way to go sometimes...
