Unhappy Why don't more people try for 11's?

I see a ton of posts that ask about what mods to get to the 12's with a streetable car. I see a ton of potential head/cam combos just hoping for mid to low 12's & staying streetable. Where are all the hopes for 11's? I see reply's of people saying this "Should" get this or that.... This year I WILL have an 11 second completey streetable Z. It seemed pretty easy to get to the low 12's so far. Is it just that people set their expectations a little lower in hopes of getting a pleasent surprise? These LT1's are 11 second head/cam cars. Hell they are 11 second cam only cars with the right set up. I was just curious & just trying to understand why..... Please don't anyone take this as a slight flame or anything like that. I am really wondering why.

Thanks..

BTW Lets get them goals to set to the 11's... or them LS1's will never respect us....

I'll be awaiting your check in the mail.

$7000 should be good, I should have a few extra bucks for stuff.

I knew that was coming... And it didn't take long. You know what I mean. People that "ARE" going to do a cam or head/cam really seem to underestimate the LT1 with those mods....

I don't know if this is it but don't you have to have a cage, ect. if you run under 12.00?

At some tracks.. But yes that is the rule but there are a couple of tracks around here that turn their cheek.

I believe so.

There is also a difference between STREETABLE and EMISSIONS LEGAL. While I'm not saying a heads/cam only car couldn't do it, it's a tough bar to hurdle. Usually a power adder comes into play to get 10's or 11's emissions legal. Sometimes two power adders...right rich?

LOL....I go to a track in Alabama that has no rules at all.....you can run 11sec convertables top down with no cage if you want too. Hell....I even saw a Lightning go down the track with to dudes sitting in the back.....They did get ask no to do that again . Now you do have to dodge potholes just after the traps so that does slow you down abit thinking about that

I'm lookin for 11's definately! 12's are nice but I want to hear the guys at the track tell me to go home and that I can't come back till I get a cage!!

BTW do you think it's possible for me to break into the 11's with a good launch with my mods?? I hate when people ask questions like this but I figured it was a good time for me to do it!

You might not hit 11s, but youll trap like 120 which is good for 11s with a perfect launch.

Heres the way I look at it. You are only as fast as your pocket is deep. And everyone will reach into their pocket only as far as they wish and are comfortable with. Some people will spend every dollar they make to go fast while others are happy with being slower and spending less. In the world of racing you have all types of track. As a general rule if its an NHRA track they will keep it to the 11.99 rule for a bar. Not evryone is willing to drive their daily driven F-bod with a roll bar in it. I know I wouldnt want to. If its not an NHRA/IHRA sanctiond track... they can pretty much do what ever the heck the please.... a 12 sec street car is nothing to laugh at... it will beat the majority of the cars you run into on the street.

My car is an 11 sec car.... call it a street car call it a track car, its all in the owners perception. Everything in the car works and I still have insurance and registration on it. Its a street car, but I rarely drive it on the street.

I plan on making an emissions/street legal car and hope for 11's (maybe 10's he he)

Lingenfelter made a 383 cid EFI LT1 emissions legal with 425 HP @ 5500 rpm / 468 lbs-ft @ 4000 rpm. I plan to build off of that and tweak a few things to see how that pans out.

What sucks is our rear end, obviously. You cut 1.7 60' a lot, and you're gonna be down 2K when you need to throw in a 12 bolt. So some people (I know I am) are afraid of blowing it out by running too fast.

Of course, I'm adding a 100 shot in the fall, which should get me in the 11s

I expect to run 11's when I get my car put together this spring. It will be a streetable heads/cam/bolt on car with no power adder. I just hope the 10 bolt will hold up till I get a 12 bolt.
