Open vs. Closed Loop on Hotcam car

Well, my car doesn't run that well since I took off the headers and I'm getting poor mileage (12-18mpg). My only mods are ram air and hot cam kit w/ rockers. Would my car run any better mileage and performance wise if I ran it open loop (ie unplugged the O2's)? The pcm programming is stock and I have no header/exhaust mods. Also, how much power would I gain by installing an Aerochamber muffler (I have one laying around).

Don't know why you take headers off with Hot cam' they are generally a must to optimize the cam/rockers etc. Open loop as I understand, is a set of default values for a cold engine, and will probably leave you rich for stock engine. Don't know for certain how that will affect your situation, but I really don't believe that it will be an improvement.

You probably want to think about getting headers/exhaust and a decent tune to fix it up.

Why not get it properly programmed for the HOT cam? There is absolutely no reason a well tuned setup will not produce excellent performance and fuel mileage. From the limited discription, it would appear you have more significant problems, that might only be "covered up" if you pulled the O2 sensors out.

I agree, from what I've read PCM programming is almost a must with the hotcam. It would give you more power besides making it run better.
