I have run longtubes for months OPEN. I love it and it doesnt bother me, as long as your not too hard on the gas the cops wont bother you and have music so you dont have to hear all the rattles, it will rattle the **** out of the interior, you wont care because it sounds AWESOME. You will **** yourself the first time you floor it OR start it. If you do end up doing that then get a muffler shop to make a 12" long 3" diameter pipe with a flange to connect to your header collector so you have some pipe length after the O2 sensors or else you will run VERY rich, cost me 40 bucks... no more free flowing exhaust than that, and you will get looks and compliments. I made the numbers in the sig with exactly whats in the sig so power is probably more than if you put an exhaust system on it.
Oh man it will be a HELL of ALOT louder. It will rattle your mirror down and shiz. If you drive your car often and enjoy talking in the car and the radio AT ALL, then go pay $100- $150 and have a muff shop make a y-pipe
It gets old FAST. When the LTs are shakin the crap out of your console and the vibrations make your legs cramp up.....you'll want to run some pipe after the headers. Sounds pretty nice dont get me wrong, but its not worth the trouble.
How about this, try it out for a while and if you get sick enough of it to spend the dough on an exhaust system then go for it. I have not gotten sick of it at all and I hear my radio just fine, no harm in running it like that for a while but make sure you have a foot of pipe after the o2 sensors.
Open headers on the street is nuts IMO, especially if you aren't making much power. Even putting aside the fumes and the ridiculous noise level inside the car, one of the most annoying things about all the sport compact cars running around is how loud they are given how slow they are. I don't think I'd want to be running around in an f-body with an open exhaust when I didn't even have enough power to take down something like a lightly modded Evo or WRX STi, not to mention a stock 03+ Cobra. At the strip too, people get pretty annoyed with cars running open headers unless they are actually fast enough to justify all the racket (i.e., 10 or 11 second car at least).

Does it really matter? F-Bodies are gonna be faster than most cars on the street.
There are "straight through" mufflers that do nothing to hurt performance, while cutting the noise down enough to avoid permanent hearing damage
. I run 3" Borla XR1's on the collectors, and enough 3" pipe to get the turndowns behind the end of the driver's side door - required by our local track, along with its 90dB noise limit. I've dyno'd the car with and without the exhaust... there is no difference, and that's putting close to 800HP though the system.
