One more quick question.

I have the Melling Stock Equivalant Oil pump that I ordered from summit and the IS-55E oil pump drive shaft. However I was planning on reusing my stock pickup with this setup. Do I need a Melling 3/4" (155S) pickup as well because the stock size is 5/8"?

Thanks.

Re: One more quick question.

I used a Melling replacement pump that I bought at O'Reilly's. My stock pickup pressed right in without a problem.

Re: One more quick question.

Thanks, I will try and see if it presses into my new melling pump. I still have to check for clearances on the oil pan though correct? Or were you able to put the stock one on the melling pump without checking the clearance? I would assume it would fit the stock pan equivalant to what the stock pump and pickup did normally so I would be fine, however I just want to make sure.

Thanks.

Stock size on our '94 was 3/4".Use a NEW pickup if you don't want it to suck air.Ya can't get the old one out without damaging it.

Re: One more quick question.

I would use a pump with a ¾" pickup and not the early 5/8. I always install a new pickup as well.

Re: One more quick question.

Sounds like cheap insurance. I will pickup one tomorrow. A normal SBC pickup will work right? Autozone, schucks or napa should carry this right? I dont have to get a special one from gm or melling?

Also thanks for the help yesterday shoebox. My pistons were not at TDC. I turned the crank a hair and they lined up perfectly. Here is a picture of it lined up correctly.

Beware the picture is HUGE. Dialup=0wned

Nothing special but the size. After mounting the pump, put some modeling clay(about a 1" ball) on the solid part of the pickup face and gently put on the oil pan and mash down on it.. The ball should be 1/2" thick when you remove the pan and no more.
With the pump level the pickup should be level to the ground also. They make a tool to install the pickup but you can clamp the tube in a vice with the "KNOT" sholdered up on the edge, hold the pump square with the tube and smack it with a dead blow hammer until the "knott" is up to the pump housing like your factory one.Make sure you start it streight.
