blew a pushrod

Re: blew a pushrod
Remove valve covers, remove rockers, pull out pushrods. Put new pushrods in, replace rockers, torque to 23 lb/ft, replace valve covers, start car. Will take a few hours if you have no idea what you're doing.
The covers are to the left and right of your intake manifold...
been a while since I worked on an LT1, but I think each cover has 6 (?) bolts.

Re: blew a pushrod
Umm you have to adjust the valve[s] that you change the pushrod on also.. not just torque the rocker to 23 ft lb..
Only rocker arms that gets torqued to adjust are 'real' LT4 RR's..[NOT Hotcam kit RR's]
See shoebox page for rocker adjustment info.. it's the trickiest part..
[BTW where did the pushrod go?]
EDIT above applies to LT1.. not LS1.. probably the cause for the confusion about adjusting..

Re: blew a pushrod
if you "blew" a pushrod...you would more than likely see a dent on the valve covers. you dont need to take the heads off to get the pushrods out of even check them.
very easy, valve covers off, losen all rocker arms and pull the aside, slide pushrod out..inspect it. rinse and repeat as needed!

Re: blew a pushrod
who told you it was a pushrod? Like the others said what are your symptoms? More than likely someone gave you some bad advice. Don't go rushing off and buying parts yet--just a little advice.

Re: blew a pushrod
dear god....wow, you cant visually see if they are cracked. let me take that back...SOMETIMES you can see the cracks with your eyes, you'll have to give them to a shop.
taking the heads off is fun! first rip apart every little tiny connector you can see in, near or around the intake manifold, disconnect fuel lines, rad out, coolant lines gawn, power steering, hell...just take out all the bolts you can see. Then take off the intake manifold (you can leave the TB on still), valve covers off, rocker arms out, PUSHRODS out...exhaust manifolds (headers if you have them) oh yea...that damn dipstick tube as well (i always forget about that little guy) and then FINALLY you can take the heads off. Theres a bunch of bolts outside the head where you took off those exhaust manifolds/headers, and yet more fun bolts inside the head. Make sure you have a really big breaker bar for those babies!!
did i leave anything out???
