Once and for all, is it my clutch, or is it me?

OK all. I think I may be going nuts, but bare with me. about 1 year ago i put in a spec stage 2 clutch with their billet flywheel. I had it professionaly installed. I also had new clutch hydrolics installed as well, and there is a piolt bushing not a berring for those who are curious. The clutch held awsome, i loved it, it grabed like an ape. I was ALWAYS complaining of the clutch grabing high. Bacicly at idle and in 1st gear, i can lift up the pedal and feel the clutch start to bite at 50%. BUT when simpile starting out in first gear, slowly, I would have to ride the clutch all the way to the top of the pedal. I went to Spec complaining, they said they had a batch of flywheels that were cut to low from the factory (Fidanza) and that was causing a high grabbing clutch in a few of their earlier flywheels. So I sent the flywheel, clutch back to them. They gave me a new flywheel for free, cleaned up my presure plate, gave me a new backing surface, torsion tested the presure plate, I upgraded to a stage 3 disc for a pretty resonable price. I install the thing, and at first it is harsh and was grabbing GREAT, right dead in the middle, SO hard, and so dead in the middle that she would buck. Its GREAT i love it, I now have 800 miles on her. I felt as i broker her in text book style that the pedal started to get higher and higher. Now 800 miles later she is grabing JUST like my stage 2 was. Pretty much at idle in 1st i can lift up the clutch and she will start to bite 50% of the way up, but i have to ride her to get her going. I mean, for example I can try to accelerate quickly from a red light and it will sound like I am spinning the clutch becuase I am not 95% up top. I dont race my car much..yet...and I dont do much heavy launching..yet...Could this be my clutch hydrolics adjusting to street only driving? For all who are curious I removed and installed my stage 3 setup with a few friends for fear that the shop did something wrong. Everything is tight, flywheel bolts loctited, etc... Nothing has moved. What are your ideas? Is it my clutching system, or do I not know how to drive? Lemme know

I'm not worried it about slipping, the stage 3, 6 puck clutch i have is an animal. But its kinda hard to launch when its that high, is SOUNDS like your spinning the clutch but i'm not cus its not engages enough, it will literaly roll 2 inches a minute if i drop the pedal from disengages to 50%. do you rev it up with you launch or go off idle? Someone? Anyone? all comments please.

OK ALL, tell me what you think about this. I was thinking. I know our clutch hydrolics are auto adjusted by the drivers style of driving. Somewhat. Well when I shift, I literaly tip toe the clutch. I can be at 5000 rpm and i tip toe the clutch just to get the presure off and switch. Its GREAT, car sounds like an auto. BUT, is this causing my clutch hydros to adjust them selvs high cus it doesn't know anything about down low cus i never use it? Or am I going insane?

Funny you mention this w/ your clutch. I've got a ST w/ alum fly w/ less than 5K on it. 12 launches on it and wkend drive it only. Initially it grabbed a little past the middle and once broke in dead in the middle. Loved it. Well I had my engine rebuilt and the clutch put back in by the shop and it graps high as hell and it's slipping and burning up at the same time.

I'm rebuilding it again (engine) and I'll be putting the clutch in myself this go around. The one thing I noticed when the shop did it they installed it w/ a impact gun and didn't torque down the clutch correctly. 65lb ft on the floaters when it should've only been 35. Once it's done and it grabs like the days of old then maybe it's on too tight or something. I don't know but I'll let you know as soon as I do if that helped or not. Wish I had a better answer for you since no one else gave you one.

Yeah it is sort of funny that you are mentioning this. Because the last couple of days i have been smelling a weird smell that i have come to realize that it is my clutch. I only have 5,000 miles on my SLP clutch. It also used to engage somewhat in the middle. Or at least i think it did. I know for sure it didn't engage this high though. It engages all the way at the top now. I can smell it everyday now for the last couple of days. My friend says my clutch is going out but it still grabs really good and it only has 5,000 on it. Sorry for not giveing an answer but at least you know your not the only one with this problem.

Bleed it. If that deosn't work, try an adjustable master cylinder. With the adjustable master you should be able to make it grab where ever you want.

I am still going to have the same problem with the adj master, becuase the ajustment is where the clutch starts to bite. The clutch bites 50% infirst gear at idle. But I ride it to the top to get her going, is it becuae I am not reving it up? This is SO annoying.

I'm having the same problem with my car. It catches at about 50% and I have to ride it all the way up. I'm hoping it's nothing to big. Does anyone have any good suggestions for an adjustable master?

i dunno, but i was always under the impression that a stronger clutch will reduce driveability. were your expectations too high or am i just wrong, cuz the stage clutch ur talkin about isnt harsh enough to cause the difficulty your talking about?
