Once again, I need advice.......
Once again, I need advice.......
Ok, so my project car didnt quite make it back on the street yet. After installing many parts to try to bring the car back to life, now it appears to have a rod knocking pretty badly. I got a great deal on the 1995 Z28 but now I don't know what to do. Funds are getting somewhat low and I just need someone to point me in the right direction.
1. Would it be better to try to find someone to rebuild this motor?
2. Would it just be easier and better to try to save for a longblock crate motor?
3. Think it would be possible and a better idea to try to find a bottom end that isnt trashed to replace mine?
4. What would I expect to pay for a good bottom end if I could locate one?
5. Maybe take a chance on an engine out of a junkyard?
6. Is anyone tired of helping this dumb noob out?
I am not ready to give up the fight yet, just not sure what my options are. I have wanted a Z28 for a long time and now that I got one I just want to put the dang thing on the road and enjoy it.
Any and all replies are greatly appreciated,
Eddie

Well, 8 hours later and not one reply.
Guess that answers question #6 from above. hehehehe
From searching the net a little today I have come to the conclusion that I cannot buy an LT1 crate motor. All the crate motors I have seen are for carburated cars. Dont know if I can afford to rebuild this one right now so I guess its time to give up for a while and let it grace our yard like the rednecks that we are!

Hey Eddie take it ez bud. It'll all work out. Anyway as for your questions......throw 3 to 6 out the window.
I would go with having someone rebuild the motor. While your there bore it out to a 355. It will run you about 2K. Assuming you pull the motor yourself. You gotta fix it though so do it right.
If you wanna go with a crate motor, thats fina also.

i'm fine bro, and thanks for replying............I have only owned this car a couple of weeks and the folks here have been very helpful. Just totally lost on what to do next. I can call around but there are only a couple of shops near here that are known to do good work and they are awfully proud of their work if you know what I mean. I will try to figure out my best options. Sucks that a car that sounds that good has a rod knocking. The engine sounds great til you give it a little gas then the gremlin starts with the hammer. I just got a little anxious on wanting to drive this thing.
thanks again,
Eddie
