OMG I got the optispark wet..Need help fast

I gave the engine a sponge bath and did my best to avoid getting the opti wet. I started it up and it stumbling and coughing all over itself and wont drive worth a crap.
I assume its the opti maybe its somthing else.
Right now I am letting the engine just run in the garage hopefully to dry it out.
The opti definitely has suction and fresh air.
Does anyone have any advice for this situation.

Let it dry for a day or two. It might be alright after drying.

Okay it seems to be running fine now. I wonder if the plug wires or somthing else was the problem. The engine sounded horrible, it was really missing badly. I think I may have dodged a bullet.

Any distributor will run badly if it gets wet internally and anything with a sparkplug wire will run bad if water gets to the terminals on either end.

Atleast it was a sponge bath, and not a hosing down (like I did). I ran it for about 45 minutes and let it dry out. It's been fine ever since. 182,000 miles on the stock opti too!

sometimes just enough moisture gets in to make it misfire, but not enough to destroy the opti. in those cases it's usually best to store it in a dry area and let it dry out for a while.

My water pump started puking all over my opti one day... I had to drive it home 15 miles, then the next morning fill the car with coolant, and drive it 35 miles to my friends' house so we could put in a new water pump. Never had an issue.

I guess the vented optis really are pretty tough (well, compared to the non vented). I bet you'll be fine from here on out.

Thanks all, my finger are crossed.
It seems like I did this once a long time ago.

NEVER EVER run a car in a garage, even with the door open. That's how you make dead people.
