If wire that goes to starter becomes loose, could it cause my engine to die or???

If wire that goes to starter becomes loose, could it cause my engine to die or???
I noticed that the nut came off of the wire that connects the starter to the solenoid, and was wondering if that could for some reason cause my car to die out all of a sudden? Thanks for any input.

It should only kill power to the starter motor.
