old school distributor on lt1

well im putting in a new motor and ive seen it done before, but how hard is it to convert the lt1 over to a regular distributor setup? and how hard is it to change wires and whatnot.

Drill the intake manifold, convert over to an Accel DFI setup or F.A.S.T setup.

Actually I'm not even sure if it would work with the DFI

Wouldnt you have to drop the motor whenever youd want to change the distributor?

Your best bet would probably be to get a crank trigger and a low profile crab cap style distributor to go with whatever aftermarket EFI system you choose, so that you won't have to do any cutting or modifying of your cowl panel to get it to fit. You may have to do some clearancing of the EGR port bosses on the back of the intake for the crab style distributor to fit. (I know it's required if you swap in a small cap HEI for a 3rd gen TPI conversion.) Only bad part about putting in a 1st gen distributor is that any time you need to change it you'll have to drop the motor. A 1st gen distributor will not work with the stock PCM.

Well, it's not a trivial exercise, but it isn't rocket science.

One option you can consider is either purchasing a signle 4-barrel manifold and adding injector bosses or buying one that is already set up for injectors and converting the bold pattern. Then of course you have to buy or build an elbow. This option assumes that you want to keep the complete factory injection setup.

Of course, it would be less expensive, not to mention easier, to just buy a high-end aftermarket Opti-Spark; or even a Deltec or something similar. I mean, I assume that's your motivation here. I could be wrong about that.

Yeah, that's about it. Good luck with it whatever you decide to do.
