I've read varying #'s on pickup height.. anywhere from 1/4-1/2"?

Also, my milodon pickup tube has a little metal frame under the screen area that is probably 1/4" long. When setting height, am I measuring from the screen down? Or from the little frame down?

 

1/4" is too close. I set mine at 1/2" with a ball of clay on the pickup. If ya put it on the screen put some masking tape under it to keep the clay out of the screen when it compresses.
Measure to where 1/2" of liquid will come to the top of where the screen is attached to the metal. The screen at this point should not be touching the bottom of the pan.
The pickups I use the screen is at the bottom/end of the tube.
Like the stock one's are round with a metal cover half way over the bottom and a screen on the other half. I put the metal cover at 1/2" from the bottom and the screen is wherever it winds up.

 

Bah... I do it at 3/8th's lol

This is the pickup I have.. I like it since it has the bolt in bracket. I'll set it to 1/2" from the screen.

I'm getting about .4" from the bottom of the pan with clay b/w the screen itself and the bottom of the pan... wheeee I still had more to go as far as tightening up the pan goes too... so it might even be like .3...

I'll try to move it upward some tomorrow.. I don't want to work on my car till 1am tonight..

 

Allow for the gasket.

 

That was with tthe gasket in... i wasn't compressing it down tho

 

 

I don't know...... I just set my Canton one at 13/32" instead of 3/8".

 

I have found that 27/64 works the best of all.

my canton ended up bein 9/16". I was a little worried, but the techs at work said it was fine. I can't adjust mine, there is no way. There is a bracket that attatches to the oil pump housing bolt. Works for me though...
