He wouldn't have spark(and inj. pulses, once he checks) if the chain broke, and modern SBC/LT1 chains usually won't jump time either

Mine did this when my rotor in the opti spun loose, I got spark but the timing was waaaay off so the car wouldn't start. Try to take the opti off and shake it if it rattles it's the rotor.
good luck.

I'm pulling it all apart again to doublecheck the timing and opti drive. The chain's a billet rollmaster double roller., if it broke it'd make a hell of a lot of noise because it BARELY fits under the timing cover.

My guess is the injectors are not firing correctly. All my plugs were black and wet when i had a bad injector fuse, even though someone told me that there was no way the injectors were working if i had a bad fuse but they all were wet so obvioulsy the plugs were getting fuel from somewhere. Anyway, i know you said that your fuses were not bad but are you POSITIVE that those were the only two cylinders not working properly? If so how did those two plugs look compared to the other 6? I am going to go with the injectors arent functioning properly. If you dont have a noid light, pull your fuel rail up so you can just see the bottom of the injectors and crank the engine over a few times (leave them in the hole so you dont get fuel everywhere). See what these injectors are doing compared to the other ones.

Brandon

**Edit**- You may want to unplug the coil so you dont risk catching anything on fire. You can also lay a towel down if you dont want excess fuel in your cylinders.

Okay, so I took it all apart, and I put the opti on wrong. Go figure. Fixed it and it fires now, but runs like it did when I got it towed here. Looks like at least one cylinder isnt firing. I pulled the injector connector for that cylinder, no change in the idle at all, so that would lead me to assume the injector is bad/clogged/etc. Whats the best way to clean/test them?

You said you revved the motor pretty high before this started i would say pull off the valve cover and check if you bent a pushrod or something on that cylender as others have suggested. I would be willing to bet my life that it has to do with a rocker/pushrod/lifter on that cyl if you revved the motor too high before this started.

i think he may have the dreaded compression denial syndrome

I'll pull it off and check, but this valvetrain can handle much higher RPMs then I was at when it started being funky.

Have you tried switching injectors? I would switch the bad and good ones to see if you can eliminate injector fault or not before i worried about compression.

He's right, you would loose spark, but not if the cam broke. Don't go pulling the timing cover off to check. Just pull a valve cover. But it does seem as though you missed something in your diagnosis. Hey don't forget you can squirt fuel in the intake and crank it over to see if you have a fuel delivery problem.

Re: Okay, I'm stumped (misfire)

Ended up being the new opti put in 120 degrees off in the wrong dowel hole AND a dropped valve.
