Alright there wasn't too much comprehensive info when I tried the search on this topic. But what would be ALL of the parts needed to swap the Turbo 400 into my 93 Z28 to replace the 700r4?

I imagine it would be cheaper than spending $1200+ for a rebuild, since I already have a TH400.

So please list parts I would need, and price estimates. Also what is the overdrive unit that some people get?

Thanks

You will need: aftermarket torque arm that does not mount to the tranny (Spohn or BMR Xtreme) You will also need the tailshaft housing, exciter ring for the VSS and the VSS sensor from a 454SS pickup for the speedo to work. You will have to slot a 6 speed crossmember and use it as well as getting a driveshaft made. Check out http://para.noid.org/~lj/TH400/TH400.htm for some good pictures.

Ok, what shifters would work? Would any fit in the A4 console without too much cutting?

What about an overdrive unit?

Do you have a manual valve body or an auto? I have the B&M Pro-Ratchet on a manual valve body TH400. It is mounted invisibly in what was a stock M6 console, including the boot.

What about an overdrive unit?
I have the Gear Vendor 0.78:1 overdrive. Decide if you want to install a GV before you buy the driveshaft (GV obviously needs a much shorter DS) and the torque arm (GV requires that the DS loop be moved back significantly).

I have a Mark Williams 3" chrome moly DS for sale, with TH400 input yoke, solid 1350 u-joints, for the TH400 without the GV. $425 + shipping. Need to check length, because my TH400 seems to be about 1" or so longer than normal. My 6-speed cross-memeber required an extension, not just slots.

I've got a Gear Vendor for the Super T-10. They say it isn't necessary to use the clutch when activating the GV but I'd recommend it. It slams hard. Not sure how "gentle" it is on an automatic. Enjoy!

In an automatic, the GV shift firmess is proportional to fluid pressure. Low loads = easy shift, high loads = neck snapper.... just what it takes to use it as a "4th gear" when trap speeds go over 130mph..... .
