So I was adjusting my valves today with the motor running. I was working on the passenger side and was almost done with that side. I was working on #2. Well, meanwhile a lifter had started tapping on the driver side. By the time I waas on #2, I couldn't even hear what I was doing on the passenger side, because of the tapping that was so loud coming from the driver side. So, I went over to the driver side to try and locate which one was making so much noise. It sounded like the #5 exhaust and when I tried to tighten it down some, just to quieten it some, it started shooting oil EVERYWHERE. It is shooting oil clear out past the car. Car even caught on fire for a minute with all the oil that got on the header ...is that lifter bad? Did I do something wrong???

 

I THINK thats a failed lift...that what I was told one time...but I could be wrong.

 

I can't think of much else it would be. I went to NAPA and got some intake gaskets, rtv and a lifter. Into the motor I go. I guess I'll know soon for sure.

 

When was the last time you changed your oil?.... I did the same thing before and had oil shoot everywhere.. I asked myself is there anything I could do that I wouldnt have to dig into the motor and I came up with that since I have to change my oil I might as well give it a shot.... I did the oil change with a little thicker oil 5w 30 drove around for a few miles came back and pop the valve cover off and inspected it while running and it turned out that my gamble payed off...

Give it a try and see what happens.
