Oil Sending Unit on 1994 Camaro Z28

Just curious as to why my oil sending unit is located directly above my oil filter whereas I was always told that this was located on the back rear of the intake manifold. Do I have a different kind of engine?

No. I believe it started in '95 until '97 the sending unit was plumbed to an oil port located on the back of the intake.
