oil pump and oil pan question
Re: oil pump and oil pan question
The stock pan and oil pump are fine, with a few cautions....
-a 383 crank may require some minor tapping of the pan with a hammer. Not sure about a 396, but it would probably be tighter.
-you need a windage tray.
-the oil pump should be new, and "blueprinted".... clearances per specs, all burrs removed, etc.
-pickup should be tack welded after verifying you have the correct clearance to the pan.

Re: oil pump and oil pan question
the stock tray mounts to 3 studs off of the main bearing caps. i had major issues with my pan/383 setup and ended up getting a canton pan. The stock oil pump is fine, but you do want to buy a new one. I have a brand new meling pump that i didnt end up using (long story) that i will sell for 25$ if you are interested.
