oil pump half shaft cracked!

Have any of you guys have gotten cracks there the shaft bolts to the block under intake! I have had problems with at least 7 to 8 of these crack alone the arm. This there a fix to beef up this? I don`t want this to come apart. Also does cam force try to drive the shaft up when gears mesh that could explain the stress on the plastic part. Thanks for you reply`s

I am sure the Herron Performance piece is quality but at the same time if you have broken that many of these you are doing something wrong and a beefier piece alone may not be the solution.

What is it look like ? This it just a flat plate or does it have a tap to get from moving. also you have a number? Is it a complete half shaft.

It is stock unit, it goes in easy the arm set down level with the bolt hole. have you heard of any of these coming apart?

I have heard, but not seen proof, that a high volume pump can be a culprit to the failure of these. Wonder if the stress of having to move the extra volume of oil is too much for the stock plastic mount tab.
In a way I wish GM would have made them out of steel, being on the inside of the engine and all. Here I thought plastic was only for sensors

Doubt the high volume pump would cause an issue. the problem is a direct result of bad engineering on the part of GM. That plastic will only survive one torquing then it is weakened.

Something worth looking into.
Maybe you can drill the hole out and insert a metal sleeve and the thing will go the distance.

Do you thing a piece of flat stock with some taps on both sides would work? this would keep it in place.

I have never had to buy one of those and have never broken on. Matter of fact the old one from my original L99 resides in a friend's LT1.

I think this is another case where a COMPETENT mechanic behind the wrench has no problem but the masses blame GM for their own ham fisted mistakes.

Far as making a tab to hold it down, can and has been done.

I have seen evidence that HV pumps can wear the gear but not necessarily break the holddown.

I`am wonder still if the cam gear rotation trys to drive the shaft up thur gear meshing together. What do you think? where as to be some stress on that arm because stock torq is only 13 ft p.
