Oil pump guage and Tachometer not working
Oil pump guage and Tachometer not working
I have a couple of problems with a camaro i bought. I bought it with the engine out and and put another motor in it. I got it back in and the oil pressure guage and tachometer do not work. With just the key on the oil pressure guage goes to zero, but when i crank it the guage shoots up to beyond 80psi. And as for the tach. that doesnt work, It will just barely move when i rev it up. It may bounce up to like 300-400 rpm's. The speedometer and volt. and temp guage works though.
*One more thing that may play a role is the security light is on, I dont really know why the security light is on and it stays on.

What year is your car/engine? Not all LT1's are the same. Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods.
Late 94 and newer the oil pressure sensor is on top of the block, in back of the intake manifold. It isn't unusual to hit it on the cowl or firewall while installing the motor, and breaking it. Check the sensor. Make sure the wire is connected.

If you have a 93 or "early" 94, the sensor will be above the oil pump on the driver's side of the block.
Tach is driven off the PCM, in all years except 93. 93 the tach is driven off the coil, with a "filter" in the circuit. What year is your car, what year is the engine? They are not compatible.

first, i dont really know how to add a signature.
Other than that the motor is a 95 but i put all the 93 stuff on it. Im beginning to think that the car's guages is a 94. Is there anyways to convert the tach signal to work with the 94 guages?
Iknow the oil sensor is hooked up. I guess im gonna go ahead and hook up a new one. Im more worried about the tach problem. I think i can figure out the oil pressure.

well i fixed the oil pressure guage, it was just the sender. But i still have the tach. problem. I cut that tach. filter out and it allowed the tach to read about right up to maybe 3 grand, then it just falls back to zero. I have read on here that people have that same problem when installing later guages into a 93 car. I seen where you "Injuneer" have responded to a couple. BUt i can never seem to find a thread where they got it fixed right. The people who have the problem just quit posting so i guess they figured it out. Yall have any suggetions? I think my 93 has later style guages.
