oil pump disassembly
oil pump disassembly
i ordered a new melling hd pump and it just came in, however, its just the body, it dosent come with the pickup or the rod. my question is how to remove these pieces from the old pump without damaging them. the pickup is just pressed in right? so is it safe to put the old pump in a vice and wiggle it out? and is there a trick to getting the shaft off? i cant do it lol
Don't use the old pickup and don't use a plastic sleeve on the driveshaft (use a driveshaft with a metal sleeve like the Melling IS-55E -Autozone has them). Pumps with a pressed in pickup usually don't come with the pickup and most don't come with a drive shaft.
Did you mean you bought an HV pump? I hope you have read the many threads recommending you not use that on a stock pan. Also be prepared for possible extra wear on the oil pump drive (not the driveshaft) if using an HV pump.
