oil pump?

Im thinking about buying this lt1 engine. the ad says 500 miles since professional rebuild by kotzur, somewhere in texas. it has lt4 hotcam, stage 3 ported heads, and opti, intake, most components. The reason hes selling is b/c he says he couldnt keep a tranny behind it. He said it dynoed 342 rwhp, and 330 ft lb of tq @ rw. He told me that I would have to get a smaller oil pump to run it on the street. He had it installed in his s10, and went back 2 stock lt1 due to 700r4 tranny failures behind the engine. My questions are, why would I need a less volume oil pump to run on the street? especially if the car only had 342 rwhp? Also, do you think his tranny failures are caused by maybe faulty balancing or instalation or something? Im not really sure, but those numbers seem like they could easily be handled by a 700r4, let a lone 2 new ones. Im thinking about buying this engine, and need some opinions, on the numbers, and most importantly an explanation on what could be wrong with the engine to cause the tranny problems, or if its just merely a coinscidence. The price seems good. Thanks for your replies, and sorry for the long post (I guess I strayed from the title a little)

Ya might want to do some investigation 'bout this one.
Doesn't sound right on any of the explanations.
Might want to leave it alone.

i will say that i went through 3 4l60's with only 315 hp to the wheels. that was with in 5000 miles though and beating on it pretty surverly. find out who the "professional" that built it was and see if the info is true. it very well could be.

you can get a mellings pump from autozone or orielies (sp). part no. m55. and it will go right on in.

thanks. I just talked to him, and he seems like he knows what hes talking about. He said there is a small oil leak in the rear main seal. How hard is that to fix, w/ the engine out of the car? also, the block is from a 92 corvette. Will I have to buy anything to make it hook up to my pcm, w/ mass air flow, etc?

Also need to know if I have to buy anything else, b/c my engine is a 94, and it is a 92 corvette engine. I think the alternator is on the other side of the engine as opposed to mine. Would it be hard to transfer my pulley system onto that engine w/ no mods?

There is a guy here that has a 4L60E and a built motor on spray(200). His tranny lasted for 2 years on a driver and he put a GM rebuilt in and it lasted forever. He beats on it too, runs 7.40/50 1/8 mile on motor.

If he has large clearances in the engine ya need a good pump. A stocker with the white spring may not get it done. I would ask about that.
Why is he saying it needs a smaller pump?
