Unhappy Oil pressure went to zero!

Well this morning on the way to school my check guages light came on and my oil pressure was sitting on dead zero. I stopped immediatly and checked my oil and it was full. I had it towed home cause the oil would not leave zero. I drained the oil and it was perfectly clean. Maybe it is the oil pump or the sending unit or something else. I also did LT headers like a week before if you think it might have something to do with it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Well if it was just at zero and did not move at all then it is probably the sending unit like you say. Since the oil is nice and clean and if you didn't hear any weird noises, thats probably what it was.

probably the sending unit
I would try that first. Always go by the K.I.S.S rule!

if its not the oil sending unit, i woud jast your motor up and take the oil pan off and see if you spun barings those go out if your oil guage hits zero, i know this too well

Well i found the culprit and the oil pressure sending line was crimped under the valve cover. I cut out that part of the line and replaced it with new wire. Now the oil pressure is pegged out and i dont know whhat to do now. Any suggestions????

If it's pegged out then you may have grounded it out somehow when you replaced the wire. I don't remember exactly, but wasn't it a two wire setup on the oil pressure sending unit???

Re: Oil pressure went to zero!

Nothing like a bad sending unit or wire to give a person a heart attack. At least that is all it was.

Re: Oil pressure went to zero!

Just to clarify for those that may read this thread later, the crimp you found on your wire was grounding out the gauge. That caused your zero reading. When you "fixed" the wire, you left it open to the sensor. This caused the gauge to be "pegged". When you finally got it connected, all was well again.

There is only one wire on the f-body oil pressure sending unit and it goes to gauge.

[edit] Just realized this was a thread resurrected from the dead.
