Oil pressure problems...collasped lifter? (Kinda long)

Well long story short i finally got my 36# injectors in and running good! But for some reason a couple days before that i got in my car that morning and my oil pressure was really low! Idle was about 40 when cold and while was driving it didn't move any...well after it warmed up my oil pressure went down to 18 psi which is where it's always been. But while driving it used to sit up around 40 psi just crusing and 55 or so at WOT...well now it's only about 15 psi at idle and 21-22 crusing and maybe 30 at WOT...this really scares me, but it's weird cause it just happend one day, it's not like it's been getting steadily worse or anything. Well yesterday i made a few datamaster logs just to see what the injectors were doing and on the way home i noticed at tick...which didn't sound like a exhaust leak or RR tick but i wasn't too worried about it as i was going to pull the valve cover off and check it out! Well i cranked it up this morning and now it's a really really loud tick and gets faster as the rpms go up...i'm not loosing any power, but it def sounds like a lifter stuck or something! Should i try adjust the RR's before automatically assuming it's a lifter? And why would my oil pressure being worse now than what it used to be?

A little info on the car:
I use 5w30 oil
I did CC306 swap about 2,000 miles ago and replaced everything but the lifters (120,000)
And I'm turing about 6,500 rpms now (stock bottom end)
I dropped the oil pan during the cam swap cause the low oil sensor broke, but the pickup was very very clean and the bottom end looked great for 120,000 miles!
Could the extra power from the injectors + the low oil pressure have caused a collasped lifter?! And also should i get comp "R"'s or stock replacment? And what should i do about my oil pressure problem? Thick oil? Replace the pump?

I am pretty sure (not certain though) that a collapsed lifter would not cause a loss in an oil pressure, since my friend has a collapsed lifter on his newly cammed camaro (at least we think so), but his oil pressure is fine.
Would be interesting to hear more experienced with collapsed lifters experience. I asked for symptoms of collapsed lifter earlier, didn't get much reply. You might have a more serious problem, or maybe a sensor malfunction

Well i had the oil pressure problem before the collasped lifter! I think that might have had something to do with the collasped lifter!

Maybe your gauge is possibly not reading right?
Were you using the same oil you are currently using when you experienced this problem?
I Am no mechanic but thought i might try and help but if the big guys dont write anything in this thread then try a search with LOW OIL pressure and you are bound to find tons of stuff!

Yes...same oil as normal...like i said i just woke up one day and cranked her up and boom it's been low ever since!

I just crank the car up w/ the valve covers off and it's sounds like it's coming from #8 I so i tried tightening that RR down along with the E on #8 but it didn't change anything! So i guess i'll be ordering lifter tomrrow! Should i get the Comp replacements (850-16) or the Comp "R"'s (875-16) Thanks for the help guys

I dont think a large enough oil leak could have happened to where you oil level is low and causes the pressure to drop?
I've read post for Low oil pressure reading and sometimes its the pickup tube in the oil pan that comes loose...possibly fell off with age or hit a large bump that night?

Re: Oil pressure problems...collasped lifter? (Kinda long)

Hmmm...i dunno that's def a possiblity. I had the oil pan off over christmas break when doing the cam swap and everything under there looked great, and tight! And my oil level is fine! It acutally has a little too much in there! But as soon as i change the lifters i'm going to change to a 10W50 or so and see how that helps!

And opions on the lifters i should get?

Re: Oil pressure problems...collasped lifter? (Kinda long)

I dont know much about internal parts swapping ...sorry about that but hopefully someone like INJUNEER or SHOEBOX or those guys that know all that internal stuff well might hit up this thread and post some help
....Like I said I go through threads all day at work sorry bout that..but from the sympton you have it can be that or sometimes even an improperly installed cam can damage the bearings and cause the drop in oil pressure. Is there any hesitation? Your oil pressure is pretty goood compared to mine. At operating temp at WOT its at 40 at its best on a good day i guess

Mine's only like 35 at WOT when warm....and like i said it's been about 2000 miles and 3 oil changes since the cam swap...so i dunno what the deal is!

Are you running rich from the injector change?
Is the oil thin from gas in the oil?
Do an oil & filter change and see,the lifter won't pump up with thin oil,and it will tap.

It started the whole low oil pressure thing before the injector swap!

Did you change the oil to see if it helped?

Ok, the tick gets louder as the RPM climbs. Does the ticking get faster as well? How about when you rev the engine in neutral, does the ticking get quieter or go away as the revs drop?

Hey...this is transamgt

The ticking gets faster as i rev the motor and especially under load...like going up a hill or something...i'm going to change to oil to a 50 weight after i put the new lifters...i guess i'm going with the comp "R"s
