Re: "Oil Pressure Low at Idle"

Pretty sure the pickup tube isnt the problem since the pressure drops once the oil is warm. Try using a mechanical gauge to see what the pressure really is before panicing. If the pressure is still low though then you will probably be looking at a rebuild.

ok it wasnt the oil pump or the pickup but I replaced the oil pump anyways while I had it appart. Since its not the oil pump do you think if I replaced the cam bearings the problem would be gone. Ive wanted to put a lt4 hotcam in anyways.

Cam bearings are RARELY a problem. And you can't really change them in the car.

Cam brgs are a common problem with a cam change.
GM didn't put a quality cam brg in the LT-1 and they won't take the extra spring pressure. Especially the front one that is over loaded just driving the water pump.

If there was no gold or silver metal in the oil pan they may not be hurt.Try changing to a straight 30 or 40W and see if it helps. Or go with a 20/50W. If the pressure comes up you may have a brg problem, that is wear and may not be a problem with the thicker oil,but..... It also depends how this problem developed, all of a sudden or gradually.

You might take the oil cooler off and throw it away, they are a restriction.

Re: "Oil Pressure Low at Idle"

My V6 has been idling at bout 5-6 psi when it gets hot for about 4 years. I've got 124K on it and no serious problems with it. Just as long as it goes back up when you give it the gas...
