How many miles are on your car. This will affect the oil pressure as bearings wear out over time.

according to the LT1 - LT4 rebuild book in the Appendix on Page 179 it says the factory specs on oil pressure should be at 6 psi at 1,000 rpm; 18 psi @ 2,000 & 24 psi @ 4,000 rpm - you may want to get a mechanical gauge and see if you are getting some oil pressure at idle, I would think you are or you'd be hearing some clanking noises by now.

i would change the sending unit thats located on the back of the intake manifold. i know they do go bad a cause crappy pressure readings. you need a special kind of socket to take it off. or hook it up with a mechanical gauge like the other guy said

Try running some good old fashion 40W racing oil for about 3 months.

Why would he do that? If the problem is the gauge, the overly thick oil will not help. Diagnosis first, fixes afterwards. Plug in a mechanical gauge, see what your readings are.

maybe your oil pickup fell off

hit the bottom of the pan with your palm when the oil is drained and listen for a sound

or the oil pressure sensor is shot, happened to me

look and see if their is oil on the back of the engine and egr valve showing signs of a leak!might just be a bad oil pressure sending unit!
