Oil pressure, its not moving.
Oil pressure, its not moving.
Question all, I searched for tis problem and could not find any posts specific to the problem I am having. I know alot of people have low oil pressure BUT mine at start up (cold is about 25) and it drops to about 18-20 around town and on the highway. At WOT on the highway it doesn't go up either. This ALL started after my buddy and I put in a new clutch, intake manifold leak, and redid my oil pan gasket. The front of the oil pan leaks alittle as does the rear of the intake manifold, alittle. Will this cause the oil pressure to react like this? I am running Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w-30, and an STP filter. I ran a fram one and changed it (thinking that was the problem). It always used to be in the 40 range and go up when i went WOT. Whats wrong? Is it eletrical? Is my bottom end about to pop? I am not getting ANY knock according to datamaster and she runs good I think. The car has 105k on the clock, doesn't smoke or anything. Ideas?
there is a bulliten that GM has put out for this. To find out if you have a bad oil pressure sending unit unplug it and turn you ignition to start but don't start it. Watch you gauge if it goes all the way past 80 PSI the all it is is the sending unit replace it and you will be fine. If it does nothing then you have other problems.

Easy fix, you and your buddy just probably broke the oil pressure sensor on the rear of the intake manifold. I did the same thing when I changed my clutch. When you let the engine drop down too much, it hits the firewall and snaps off. Yours sounds like its still hanging on by a thread. The dealer did this to me too one time when they rebuilt the trans in my 94 Formula. Takes about 10 minutes to change. Need a special socket though.
HMMM!!!!!! ya know what. Between all the stuff we were doing we were jacking up the motor etc.. etc.. etc.. There is a signicant amount of oil onthe firewall, even after we did intake manifold fix (we put ALOT of rtv). Does anyone have a pic of this oil sending unit i have to replace? I think we hit it on the head, if its busted and hanging there, will it leak oil?
ok I see that that one thing threds into the block, but that hose goes into it. What broke? Also, do i buy the whole unit? Hose and nut that goes into the block? How do you take it out becuase that hose doesn't look like it comes out easily.
